The Royal Migration Camp

Ndutu, Serengeti

Tanzania

The Royal Migration Camp welcomes you into the heart of the Ngorongoro – Serengeti wilderness.

The Royal Migration Camp, Ndutu recalls the golden era of the Raj in India, when state meetings took place in the private lodges of princes, set in the wilds, where visiting dignitaries, Viceroys and friends were hosted in a manner largely forgotten in today’s world. In recent times safaris in Africa have taken on aspects of this pomp and splendour of the Raj, with the luxury and comforts of home becoming the new norm. We at The Royal Migration Camp know that world, which is how we have been able to craft out a whole new safari experience for you. Our camp is small, highly personalized and replete with every comfort, for it is our quest to show you wild and unfettered lands filled with untold stories, secrets and infinite beauty, all begging to be explored in old fashioned style.

The camp speaks a language of luxurious exclusivity yet has taken nothing away from feeling the true African bush; savage and wild on one hand and sensitive and gentle on the other.

We know the changing seasons and the movement of animals and we would love to take you into this magical world. Boasting 6 luxury tents, each with their own safari vehicle and guide, this owner managed and run luxury tented camp, which will be based in the Ndutu region for the December - April migration season, is a definite bucket list experience.

Game drives in the Ndutu region are spectacular. The days are spent driving through the grassy plains and Acaia woodlands surrounding the saline Ndutu and Masek lakes, and visiting the Hidden Valley marshes. Perennial water sources ensure an abundant year-round resident wildlife population, but when the grasslands are renewed by summer rains the plains become host to vast migrating herds, together with attendant predators. The delicate balance between rain and available grazing dictates the migrants’ movements. We have scouts that track the herds’ movements so as to ensure that our guests experience optimal viewing of the Great Migration spectacle.

Come to the Southern Serengeti to witness a gathering so large, it turns the earth black, the lake waters red and the sky brown with dust. The Wildebeest migration by far is the best natural event the world has to offer. At Ndutu, we believe you will, depending on the dates you visit, hopefully see the migration in all its glory. The short grass plains extend into the very horizon, at times filled with the migrants. Around camp itself, last season we had a pride of lions, leopard and cheetah.

Drive past the marsh into the plains and you will descend into Hidden Valley or drive around Lake Ndutu and Lake Masek looking for elephants, buffalo, leopards and tree climbing lions. Many guests come to Ndutu to see the migration but go back stunned by the sheer beauty of giraffe drifting across the surreal landscape, the magnificence of the marshes, lakes, endless plains and gorges carved out by millions of year old rivers on the banks of which our ancestors, over thirty thousand years ago eked out a living.

Listening to the sounds of nature, feeling the nerves tingle in nervous excitement as the lions roar and buffaloes shuffle through the night makes for a few heart stopping moments. At The Royal Migration Camp, we believe in a 24/7 safari experience. We show you the wilderness through the day and allow you to feel it and hear it through the night.
