Diphlu River Lodge

Kaziranga National Park

Assam, India

Spectacularly situated on the periphery of UNESCO World Heritage Site Kaziranga National Park, Diphlu River Lodge offers guests a never-before intimacy with the natural world. It is separated from the park by a narrow river, where it’s common to spot sights like wild buffalos and elephants bathing, and fishermen on rudimentary rafts. Diphlu River Lodge is the only accommodation with such close proximity to the national park in all of Kaziranga.

Committed to responsible tourism, Diphlu River Lodge is purposefully built to blend into the surrounding foliage and terrain. Its thatch-and-bamboo cottages on stilts are inspired by the simple architecture of Mishing tribal homes, and the unique weaves and artefacts that adorn the Lodge are all handmade by artisans from the region. Great care is taken to ensure that nature, the wild, and local communities always come first. This means recycling greywater; employing a team of well-trained naturalists handpicked from nearby villages; using only the freshest produce that's either locally sourced or available from the kitchen garden, and more.

Diphlu River Lodge is regularly featured among India’s best wildlife stays.

Most of our naturalists come from the villages near Kaziranga and possess a deep knowledge of the park's ecosystem. Guests also have the option to go on a boat safari in search of the endangered river dolphins of the Brahmaputra river.

Arguably one of the best national parks in the country, Kaziranga’s extensive grasslands may remind one of the African savannah, frequently referred to as the Serengeti of Asia.

The park is home to the world's largest populations of the Indian One-horned Rhinoceros, the Asiatic Wild Water Buffalo and Eastern Swamp Deer. It has also earned the distinction of having one of the world's highest densities of the Royal Bengal Tiger (one per 5 sq km). There are over 400 bird species in the park, with thousands of migratory birds visiting the park seasonally from as far afield as Siberia.

Birds of interest include black-necked stork, spotted owlet, intermediate egret, hornbills, Bengal florican and more.

Dining

Our chef is a homegrown talent from a nearby village who's known for his innovative preparation of Assamese, Indian, and Continental cuisines, creating delicious meals out of locally available produce from the markets or our own kitchen garden. The chef belongs to the Mishing tribe and also loves to introduce guests to indigenous tribal cuisines.

Meals are typically buffet-style with great care taken to address dietary requirements.

The bar is well-stocked with the choicest Indian spirits, beer, and wine.
